The Kenya Kwanza team said Azimio la Umoja leaders are keen on protecting their business empires and not empowering Kenyans economically.

Deputy President William Ruto said Azimio leaders are eager to amend the constitution and create positions to safeguard their selfish interests.

“While we believe August 9 will be an economic moment for Kenyans, our competitors believe that it will be a constitutional moment,”Ruto said.

Ruto was speaking on Monday, during the the Safina party’s National Delegates Congress at Bomas of Kenya.

Ruto said leaders cannot revive and grow the Kenyan economy without proper programmes no matter how many times they amend the constitution.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said that  the three elite families are determined to stay in power to protect their business interest at the expense of Kenyans.

“One family wants to dominate the milk industry. It's setting the prices of the commodity for farmers and determining how much consumers pay," he said.

"They exploit both the farmer and the consumers. This must be brought to an end."

He added that the country is staring at a ‘family capture’ being choreographed by few individuals in power.

“We have three families that wants to be in power in the country for the next two hundred years. They are the Kenyattas ,Jaramogis and Mois.”Gachagua said.

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi, in his speech after being endorsed as the party’s flag bearer said Kenya has been crippled by debts, killing economic activities and income opportunities for the young people.

“There is a propaganda they are spreading out there that Kenya is the sixth wealthiest nation in Africa, yet it has been impossible  to do business in this country,”Wanjigi said.

Safina leader Paul Muite said they decided to team up with UDA because they share the same vision and ideologies.

“Safina’s economic and social policies are identical to UDA. If win we will invite you to be part of the administration but if you do, don't leave us out,”Muite said.

Ruto further said that the best way to support a party is to criticise it when it goes wrong

“You must never be a sycophant of your party, always speak up when things go wrong,”Ruto said.

Ruto asked the leadership of Safina to team up with Kenya Kwanza in the run up to elections.

“We will have a good future for the country if we work together because we share a vision,”He said.

Also present at the NDC were Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura and MPs Oscar Sudi and Didmus Barasa.

The business man ditched ODM and joined Safina three weeks ago.

Wanjigi stated that he has not given up on being Kenya’s next president.

"I did assure Kenyans that I will be on the ballot on August 9. And where I will be is where the next government will be formed," Wanjigi said.

"It will be a government of the people and for the people. Today, I have officially become a member of Safina."

Wanjigi claimed that his exit from ODM party was due to the violence meted on him during the party’s National Delegates Congress at Kasarani stadium.

"I resigned from ODM after the brutal violence I experienced at Kasarani during the ODM NDC. Raila made it practically impossible for the party to hold free, democratic and credible presidential nominations," he said.

The business man accused Raila of working with President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop his journey to presidency.
