Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has defended himself over remarks he made in Gatundu on Friday during the Kenya Kwanza Alliance rally saying he is not tribal.

Speaking during a church service at ACK St. James and All Martyrs Memorial Cathedral in Murang’a County on Sunday, Kuria said he is not tribal.

He appeared to suggest that his speech in Gatundu was taken out of context to mean that he had a vendetta with a certain tribe in the country.

“I am not a tribal person, I embrace all tribes. Someone tell Luos, I got no problem with them.”

Kuria insisted that he embraces all Kenyan tribes and urged leaders and electorates alike to shun being inconsistent with whatever they say.

Mimi sina shida na mtu, shida yangu ni io switching off,” Kuria said.

Loosely translated to “I got no problem with anyone, my issue is reneging on promises and agreement".

Kuria's response comes in the wake of criticism that was directed at him.

The controversial MP was blamed for 'profiling' members of a certain community.

In the Gatundu rally, Kuria had referred to an oath that seemingly suggested that the Mt Kenya region should never back members of a particular tribe for the presidency.

The remarks were interpreted as targeting the Luo community.

A section of Kenyans took social media to condemn the MP even as Azimio leaders demanded his arrest.

Deputy President William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, Ndidi Nyoro (Kiharu), Irungu Kang'ata (Senator Murang'a), among others, were present at the church service.

The leaders called for peace even as they assured the Church of their support.
