Trans Nzoia Governor-elect George Natembeya takes office with a basket full of issues awaiting his attention.

Natembeya faces the challenge of distributing health infrastructure across the region and residents expect to see the Sh1.4 billion county teaching and referral hospital open its doors to patients.

The hospital was unveiled by former governor Patrick Khaemba, one week before the August 9 general election.

The former Rift Valley region commissioner will also be expected to provide a conducive environment for traders.

Residents are also expecting him to put much focus on the land question which is still contentious despite several reforms by the national government.

He will be expected to make sure the land titling programme is expedited as he promised during his campaigns.

Natembeya had pledged o fix water services by capitalising on the Mt Elgon and Cherang'any hills water towers.

Trans Nzoia, headquarter in Kitale town still lacks a functional sewage and drainage system.

However, Natembeya who won on a DAP-K ticket may face challenges in implementing his policies because the Kenya Kwanza faction dominates the county assembly with 16 MCAs against Azimio's 9.

The tough-talking long-serving administrator told the  Star that he will discharge his constitutional mandate by serving all residents irrespective of their political inclinations.

"I will be reaching out to all elected leaders no matter their parties to give our people quality services.  We will work together to make Trans Nzoia great again,’’ he said.

He urged politicians, clerics and professionals to join him in building the county.

The assumption of office committee is already racing against time to swear in Natembeya and his deputy Philomena Binea Kapkory on August 25.

County commissioner Samson Ojwang who is the chairman of the committee said the ceremony will be held at the ASK grounds from 10 am to 2 pm.

"The stage is almost set for the swearing-in and handing-over ceremony for the governor," he said.

High court judge Joseph Karanja will be presiding over the ceremony assisted by Kitale chief magistrate Julius Ngar Ngar.
