A 29-year-old worker was electrocuted at a construction site in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

This is the latest such death to occur at a construction site amid calls for contractors to ensure the safety of their workers.

Dozens of workers have died in such places in a series with no action being taken to address the trend.

Police said Kyalo Nzangi died while trying to disconnect a flood light that was being used on the ground floor on Saturday, March 23.

The workers had lit the light to help them continue with their work at the site, police said.

The victim did not have gloves while removing the floodlight hence the electrocution.

He was rushed to Mother and Care Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He had sustained serious burns from the electrocution.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

The scene was visited, processed, and documented and the body was removed to Mama Lucy Hospital for autopsy.

The case is pending under investigation.

In Kipsaina, Trans Nzoia’s Geta area, one Joshua Wafula, 27 was electrocuted in his house.

The circumstances under which the incident happened are yet to be disclosed.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Cases of electrocution are also on the rise in informal settlements. Police say most of the incidents are linked to illegal power connections.

Most of the incidents happen in slums.
