A family is mourning after their nine-year-old son was electrocuted at Zimmerman estate, Nairobi.

The Grade 3 pupil at Judima Academy died after he fell from the first floor and touched three live wires passing through the house balcony on Tuesday night.

The parents said he was playing with other friends when he slid off and fell.

Police said he was taken to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending post-mortem and other investigations, police said.

In Londiani, Kericho county, a nine-year-old girl drowned in a dam.

Police said the Grade 3 pupil at Farmers Primary School left home on Monday afternoon but failed to return.

Members of the public who were passing by found the body floating in the dam hours later.

The dam had been abandoned. 

Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and investigations.

Police have been urging parents and guardians to take care of their children to avoid such tragedies. Such incidents have been on the rise, especially in informal settlements.
