Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) has castigated Azimio la Umoja for demanding the resignation of Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.

PPLC vice chair Christopher Kilonzo said they have been alarmed by the Azimio onslaught on the office and person of the Registrar of Political Parties.

“We see this as a broader scheme towards intimidating key public servants and replacing them with cronies and political marionettes,” he stated.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kilonzo added that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties is home to 90 political parties and not a few outfits.

“You cannot oppose everything and everyone unless you do not understand the role of the opposition,” he added.

The national chairman of the National Agenda Party of Kenya Alfayo Agufana said Azimio should not demand the resignation of Nderitu if the courts or any relevant bodies have not determined that she has failed in her mandate.

“They should go to court or register their complaint with any relevant body. If she is found to have failed, then they will have grounds to demand her resignation,” Agufana stated.

On Wednesday, Azimio leaders called for the resignation of Nderitu caliming she has been pocketed by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Nderitu has however denied the accusations.

"Nderitu should leave office because she has been incorporated into Kenya Kwanza," former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said.

He added that the Office of Registrar of Political Parties no longer enjoys the confidence of Kenyans.

Wamalwa further censured Nderitu for not implementing the decision of Jubilee's Monday NDC where several NEC members were removed.

Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni claimed the mission of ORPP is to kill multi-party democracy.

On Thursday, Agufana added that some of those who are demanding her resignation have questionable track records.

“Some of those demanding her resignation previously held senior positions in government and they did nothing to uplift Kenyans. Kenyans are going through difficult times because of them,” Agufana said.

He further added that during the Handshake, political parties pointed out loopholes and inconsistencies in the Political Parties Act but Azimio ignored them.

The Political Parties Act, 2011 Sec (38) establishes Political Parties Liaison Committee at the national and county Level.

The principal function of the PPLC is to provide a platform for dialogue between the Registrar of Political Parties, electoral agency and political parties.

The formation of PPLC is one of the recommendations made by the Report of the Independent Review Commission (Kriegler Commission) on the General Elections held in Kenya on 27 December 2007.
