Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told off critics saying that he is focused on delivering on his roles.

The DP alleged that some people are working hard to ensure he loses focus by talking about succession politics.

Speaking on Monday, Gachagua said that people who are making noise will not prevent him from doing his job.

"I can't lose focus. In this administration, my agenda is only to make sure that I assist President William Ruto in succeeding in the economic transformation of this republic and I can't move from there. Those who want to succeed him should continue but our focus is to assist him succeed. Allow us to help him succeed and then you can succeed him," he said.

"The President was elected the other day. It has been one year and nine more to go and you are talking of succeeding him. Surely, what is your problem?"

Gachagua called on Kenya Kwanza leaders to back President Ruto in his development agenda.

He said that the leaders should wait until the President is elected in 2027 for his second time to succeed him.

"People are now being selected to succeed him in 2032, it is disrespectful to the President, and that is a lack of respect to the President. It is being insensitive to the people of Kenya. Kenyans do not want to hear about succession but development in the country," he said.

"It is very rude and insensitive to talk about succession at this time. Let us talk about service delivery. CSs and MPs should join me in helping the President to develop the country."

He spoke in Bomet during the funeral of Philip Kipsigei Toni, the father of Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei.

His sentiments come at a time when the 2027 succession talks are rife among leaders.

A group of Murang’a leaders expressed their endorsement for Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro to serve as the deputy to Ruto in the 2027 general election.

Spearheaded by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, the leaders said that Ruto's prospects for re-election could face challenges if Gachagua is maintained as his deputy.

Senator Nyutu highlighted the importance of Murang’a’s recognition in national politics, advocating for Ndindi Nyoro as a preferable choice over Gachagua.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria urged Mount Kenya leaders to mentor young leaders like Ndindi Nyoro instead of subjecting them to political opposition.

"We should support the young leaders in Mount Kenya, and thus Ndindi Nyoro should not be fought," Kuria remarked.

Ndindi Nyoro, a close ally of President William Ruto, has frequently been mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2032 presidential bid from Mount Kenya.

Yatta MP Robert Basil on Monday suggested that a presidential ticket of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ndindi Nyoro would work best for Kenya.

"Ndindi Nyoro is a man I would welcome into our side to work with Kalonzo if we paired with Kalonzo's running mate that would be an easy win," he said on K24.
