Rift Valley leaders have assured Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of their support.

Led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, the leaders told Gachagua to ignore the noises and continue delivering on his mandate.

“You stood with President William Ruto until he became the President, we do not take it for granted,” said Cherargei.

“We are telling you as leaders from the Rift valley, we are behind you and the President a 100 per cent. Wacha ile kelele unapigiwa huko nje, kama unapigiwa kelele huko sana kuja hapa nyumbani tutafanya kazi na wewe.”

He spoke in Bomet during the funeral of Philip Kipsigei Toni, the father of Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei.

Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo echoed the sentiment asking him to stay focused and continue supporting the President to deliver on the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

“A lot will be said your Excellency because they are not happy when they see you together with the President but do not be shaken,” he said.

Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ngeno and Kipkelion West MP Hillary Koskei said as leaders from the region they recognise the role the DP plays in supporting the President.

They vowed to support him and stand behind him.

Gachagua represented the President during the burial ceremony.

Also present was Senate speaker Amason Kingi among a host of other leaders.

“The President has a lot of work to revive the economy and that is why we say we value your work,” said Ngeno.

The remarks by the leaders come in the wake of a pronouncement by a group of Murang’a leaders endorsed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to serve as Ruto’s deputy in the 2027 general election.

Spearheaded by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, the leaders contend that Ruto's prospects for re-election could face challenges if Gachagua is maintained as his deputy.

Senator Nyutu highlighted the importance of Murang’a’s recognition in national politics, advocating for Ndindi Nyoro as a preferable choice over Gachagua.

"We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro," Nyutu stated.

Highlighting the need for fairness and accountability, Nyutu insisted that the nomination process for the 2027 election should be impartial, without special privileges for any individual.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu further emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of Murang’a's mothers, advocating for the selection of a youthful candidate like Ndindi Nyoro.
