The National government has announced new measures to curb the  rising cases of road crashes across the country.

On Tuesday, the CS announced that school buses and Public Service Vehicles ( PSVs)  will be fitted with dashboard cameras and vehicle telematics.

"Telematics will have a GPS system showing where a vehicle will be at any particular time. It will have a black box recorder that will be transmitting the speed of every vehicle at every time," he said.

"It will show the location of every vehicle and show when and who maintained the vehicle. It will show where the vehicle was serviced and who serviced the vehicle," Murkomen explained further.

The cameras will be fitted in front and at the back of the vehicle.

"The cameras will reveal who and how the drivers will be driving at any given time," Murkomen stated.

The CS said that he will need the support of parliament once th new regulations will be brought to the house.

Explaining further, Murkomen revealed that telematics will have a GPS system showing where a vehicle will be at any given time.

The black box recorder will be transmitting the speed of every vehicle at any given time.

It will also show the location of vehicles.

"The recorder will also reveal how who maintained the vehicle, when it was serviced, and who did it," Murkomen added.

The CS noted that the dashboard must have a link to NTSA and the Ministries of Interior and Transport emphasizing that all saccos must have the application.

The former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator added that the price of the cameras will not exceed Sh30,000.

"If you will spend Sh30,000 and below to fit this equipment, let it be, but we will save many lives," Murkomen added.

The CS added that the ministry will give a directive to have all road reserves free from markets.

" No markets will be stationed at the road reserves. We care for th hustlers that's why they have to be removed from these road reserves," Murkomen added.

However, he said his ministry will provide access to the markets which will be a few distance from road reserves.

In addition, CS Murokem called on Kenyans to support Kenha when the time comes to roll out the new directives.

" I know it will turn to be a political fight but I'm asking Kenyans to support us in making our roads safer," he added.

The CS was speaking during the prayer service to be presided over by church leaders from various denominations at the Londiani trading centre.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was present at the service.

The new directives come after an accident occurred at Londiani Junction on Friday June 30, 2023 at around 6:30 pm and claimed 52 lives.

The 52 comprised 31 males, 18 females and 2 children.
