Multi agency security team recover firearm in Samburu

The recovered firearm is in the custody of Police awaiting ballistic examination.

A multi-agency security team on Sunday recovered a rifle during an intelligence-led operation at Ndonyowasin Village, Samburu county.

The team comprised of National Police Service officers, National Government Administration officers and personnel from the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT).

The operation was convened to arrest suspects linked to a recent incident of illegal grazing and an attack at Kalepo camp.

"A search was conducted at the home of one of the suspects which led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine," NPS said in a statement.

NPS said efforts are underway to arrest the suspect(s) involved.

The recovered firearm is in the custody of police awaiting ballistic examination.

On Thursday, police in Samburu  also recovered one illegal firearm and two rounds of ammunition in an operation. 

The National Police Service said in a statement that the illegal G3 rifle was recovered on Tuesday and loaded with a magazine. 

NPS said officers from Sereolipi police station made the recovery in Leangata area following an operation to mop up illegal firearms in the area.

"The successful recovery was as a result of joint efforts between NPS, Ngao, Northern Rangeland Trust rangers and community-based policing committee members," NPS said.
