The police have recovered an AK47 riffle with a loaded magazine after it was surrendered on Sunday to officers on patrol in West Pokot county.

Those who surrendered the said firearm were accompanied by the chief of Kositei location.

"In the same spirit of community policing, we encourage all members of public to continue supporting our efforts to restore peace in the country, particularly areas affected by cattle rustling and banditry," the police service said.

This adds to the 40 rifles and 200 ammunitions recovered through the peaceful disarmament exercise in West Pokot county, since June.
