Orengo, Oburu and Kut, Rasanga unveils preferred Siaya lineup

He had initially been eyeing the parliamentary seat at the end of his term as governor

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has asked residents to vote for Senator James Orengo as his successor  as he unveiled his preferred line up .

The governor wants EALA lawmaker Oburu Oginga to replace Orengo as senator and university don Nicholas Kut elected MP in Alego Usonga.

Rasanga had initially been eyeing the parliamentary seat at the end of his term as governor but has since backed down and endorsed Kut to duel with incumbent Sam Atandi.

Speaking during a county function in Boro market on Saturday, the county chief rallied the area residents to vote for Kut as their next MP.

He said coming from the area, the aspirant was the best person who would bring change to the constituency.

"I am a son of Alego Usonga and so my desire is that when it comes to MP position let's give it to Kut," he said .

Rasanga also endorsed Davin Ragen for the Central Alego Member of the County Assembly  seat. The governor comes from the ward.

"When it comes to the senate position, please give Oburu your votes and Ragen here for the MCA position because I know he will deliver". 

This comes barely days after he endorsed senator  Orengo to succeed him at a funeral attended by Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga. 

He said during the funeral that as an incumbent, it was important to give opinion on who  to succeed him.

Rasanga said that he had only one role to play which was to hand over to Orengo in August.

The two-term governor will be retiring from office in August.

He said his aim is to ensure that Raila gets 100 per cent votes come August 9.

Currently, those in the race for the Siaya governor seat include Orengo, Bella Akinyi and deputy governor James Okumbe,all of whom will fight for the  ODM party ticket. 

Former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo with United Democratic Party party ticket and  deputised by former Police spokesperson Charles Owino are also in the race. 

Alego Usonga parliamentary aspirant Kut, expressed confidence in clinching the ODM ticket.

He said that they were ready and prepared for the party nominations set for April 19. 

Kut urged the party to ensure that the process is free and fair. 

" We are ready, the only thing we were waiting for was for the party to announce the dates which has already been done," he said. 

Kut will be competing against , nominated MCA Jackline Oduol and the incumbent Samuel Atandi. 

Atandi has always maintained that he will retain his seat as the MP and serve for a second term.
