Clerics in Nyeri have asked President-elect William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to embark on a journey of uniting the country after they are sworn into office.

Led by Bishop Paul Wanjohi of the New Life Church, the evangelical churches termed the duo's win a great achievement for all the communities in the country.

“As you embark on your new positions, our prayer is that God will grant you more favour and wisdom," Wanjohi said.

"We trust that under your great leadership and guidance, you will bring the country together and take it to greater heights."

On Monday, the seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice Martha Koome unanimously dismissed all eight petitions challenging the declaration of Ruto as president-elect.

The chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafula Chebukati on August 15, declared Ruto the winner of the 2022 presidential race after he garnered  7.1 million votes against Raila Odinga who got 6.9 million.

The cleric also thanked Kenyans for remaining peaceful during the elections and remaining tolerant even after the results were challenged at the Supreme Court.

The bishop said Ruto’s win is a win for the church and that the church would continue to support them.

He said that they would continue praying for both Ruto and Gachagua for them to remain united as they execute their mandate.

“It is an open secret that you have partnered with the church previously and we are confident that this partnership will continue. Your win is also a win for the church," Wanjohi said.

"Our prayer is that God will hold you together and he will keep you in perfect peace as you bring into reality your manifesto."

Wanjohi was accompanied by bishops from the AIPCA church and the Akorino Church of Kenya.
