  • Kipipiri MP-elects Wanjiku Muhia said the Kenya Kwanza administration will unite the country that seems to have been divided by party politics.

UDA Members of Parliament from Mt Kenya have hailed the Supreme Court ruling for upholding William Ruto  as president-elect.

The unanimous verdict was delivered by Martha Koome, the chair of the seven-member court on Monday.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 per cent of the final vote, while Raila received 6,942,930 votes or 48.85 per cent, as announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya National Tallying Centre.

Speaking to Star on phone, Kipipiri MP-elect Wanjiku Muhia said the Kenya Kwanza administration will unite the country that seems to have been divided by party politics.

She said Ruto has promised to work with everyone including those who were against his bid to unite the country.

Wanjiku said the differences that have occurred during the campaign period are now water under the bridge and Kenyans should work together as a unit.

She said time for politicking  is over and Kenyans should now focus on working together to promote the social-economic aspect of the country.

“Our president-elect Ruto and his able deputy Rigathi Gachagua will lead the country into prosperity and good governance while also uniting the country," she said.

She added, “Ruto won fairly and Kenya Kwanza is waiting to serve Kenyans in different capacities and fulfil all the campaign manifestos."

UDA legal secretary and Gatanga MP-elect Edward Muriu said Ruto will bring inclusive governance.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration will accommodate everyone including those who were against him.

“We are ready to work with everyone and our administration will ensure that Kenya is reverted to its original state,” Muriu said.

He further said Ruto will complete all the projects that would empower society.

He also lauded the confidence and bold persona of Chebukati throughout the electoral process.

Muriu said throughout the Supreme Court hearing, UDA had set enough evidence to counter the accusation from Azimio.

“We knew our friends from Azimio had no evidence and our legal team was ready to defend Ruto at any cost.”

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo also congratulated William Ruto and his deputy.

Kabogo urged the people of Mt Kenya to unite and accord Ruto the support he deserves.

“Already the court has given its decision and upheld Ruto’s win and we should support him.”

Kiambu County speaker aspirant Josphat Kamanya said Kenyans needed a change and that is why they voted for Ruto despite President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advice.

He said Uhuru erred in publicly endorsing Raila and this must have backfired.

“Kenyans in the Mt Kenya region love Ruto and that is why they have voted for him despite Uhuru endorsing Raila.

Former chairman of Mt Kenya MCAs caucus Charles Ng’ang’a urged Uhuru to enhance the free transition of power.

Ng’ang’a said the Supreme Court ruling is final and Kenyans who were supporting Raila should accept the verdict.

“I would like to request Kenyans to accept the court ruling and accord Ruto the support he deserves," he said.

Already Kikuyu council of elders chairman Wachira Kiago had congratulated Ruto and Gachagua.

President Uhuru’s cousin Kung'u Muigai in an earlier interview with Star had urged Uhuru to congratulate Ruto as president-elect.

Kung'u had said that Uhuru should demonstrate political maturity.
