Gaspo Women chairman Edward Githua has attributed the team's impressive run this season to defensive solidity.

The Kiambu county side mastered a 3-0 win over Kayole Starlets on April 2 in the Kenya Women's Premier League to maintain second position in the 12-team league.

Gaspo have scored 34 goals and conceded a meager eight goals, the lowest in the division.

"Githua said: "We just have to maintain the performance because we still have a long way to go. I am happy that the defense has really stepped up this season. So far things look perfect."

He added: "We only need to reshuffle the midfield since it has caused us problems all season. The striking force is starved of service because of a leaky midfield."

Following the weekend matches, Vihiga Queens leads the standings with 31 points by virtue of a superior goal difference against second-placed Gaspo. The four-time champions Vihiga beat Zetech Sparkd 1-0.

Nakuru City Queens moved to third after a 3-2 victory against Kangemi Ladies. Thika Queens and Ulinzi Starlets are fourth and fifth respectively after both sides recorded a draw over the weekend.
