Vihiga Queens' shot-stopper Diana Tembesi admits she faces a herculean task to make up the final Harambee Starlets squad for the Albania friendly match on April 11.

Tembesi, 24, faces stiff competition from the experienced trio of Valentine Khwaka (Gaspo), Annedy Kundu (Rea Women FC) and Lilian Awuor who plies trade with ASJ Soyaux Charente of France.

Tembesi, who has made the number one slot at Vihiga her own since the departure of Lilian Awour in 2021 said: "I know I am coming up against the best goalkeepers who are on top of their game at the moment but I believe I have what it takes to board the flight to Albania. I will put my best foot forward and train harder to ensure that I make up the final squad."

Tembesi was called up for the under-20 assignment in 2017. The soft-spoken athlete earned a first senior call-up in 2018 but did not make the final squad.

"I am happy to be recalled. I am focused and confident to finally realise my dream of donning the Starlets colours," she said.

Last season, Tembesi managed 16 clean sheets in 19 matches. She already has seven so far in 13 appearances.

"I hope to garner more clean sheets to surpass last season's achievement," she added.

A 33-member provisional squad is expected to hit a residential training camp on March 30. Coach Godfrey Oduor's team is a blend of youth and experience.
