Guard Hilda Indasi's return to action after seven months is a real boost to Kenya Ports Authority women’s title quest, coach Anthony Ojukwu has said.

The former Kenya Lionesses star player was in action over the weekend when the champions secured 79-16 and 72-15 wins over Kenyatta University Oryx and Storms respectively.

“Yes she is back to the side and the team is getting formidable,” noted Ojukwu. “It is always good to have all your players available.”

“She is the kind of a player you would want to be in your team. The energy and the understanding she brings is something you must appreciate.”

Indasi was away in Germany for a five-month coaching course and Ojukwu is counting on her to drive the team towards their title defence alongside the backcourt duo of Natalie Akinyi and Nigerian Ifunaya Okoro.

“I believe if they stay fit, we will be a hard nut to crack,” said Ojukwu.

Meanwhile, the tactician revealed he is not yet done with recruitment as he strengthens his team for both the local league and Zone Five championships.

“I am still looking for more signings to build on the front court. If they go through, I believe we will be complete,” he said, adding that his focus is on a forward and a centre. “Hilda Ndegwa has brought some stability in the front court, which has given us good options in rotation. Her experience and knowledge of the game has also brought healthy competition in the team.”

The long-serving tactician said it’s not all about winning or losing but the happiness he derives from watching his players give their best in each and everything they do.

“If we have to win, we win with class or if we have to lose, we lose with dignity,” he said.

The weekend wins moved the unbeaten KPA to the top of the Kenya National Basketball League table with 38 points from 19 games. They are tied on points with Equity Bank Hawks, who have played a game more and have lost two.
