National Cereals and Produce Board coach Brian Mathews is targeting twin wins in Super Cup final matches scheduled for Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.

Defending champions NCPB will take on Ulinzi in the men’s final while NCPB women have a date with champions Nairobi Water Queens from 2 pm.

The men’s final is expected to produce fireworks now that the two finished top and second in the Kenya Handball League.

“We have no injuries at all. We are going for nothing short of a win. We have no excuses though we are expecting a good fight,” said Mathews.

“I have new players who have gelled well with the rest of the mainstays and from what I have seen in our games so far, they are promising.”

He said Ulinzi also have new crop of players in their stable but they will make the necessary adjustments when the two giants face off.

Mathews expressed optimism that the ladies' side also have a good chance of taking the trophy after beating Ulinzi Sharks 29-26 in their round-robin meeting.

“Our ladies' team also has some new players and are coming up well. They will be ok. It will not be an easy match as Water are also coming for the win but I wouldn’t like to lift the two cups,” said Mathews.

NCPB, who were top in Pool ‘A’, beat Strathmore University 38-26 in the first semi. William Malui shot seven goals and Brian Wekhuka had five.

The other semifinal saw Ulinzi, who topped Pool ‘B’, lockout Black Mamba 33-22. Frank Kiplagat scored nine goals while Gideon Mulwa added four for the winners.

In their last group matches, NCPB blanked GSU 31-23 while Ulinzi beat Strathmore University 26-23. In the women’s category, Ulinzi Sharks dismissed Rangers 42-31 and will have to wait for the last match on Thursday to know their fate.

In a tightly contested match, the soldiers led 18-15 at halftime. Sarah Wasike recorded 13 goals and Lavendar Martha shot eight.

“We have done our part. We played some good game and used different tactics in that match. Now we await the last match on Thursday,” said Sharks coach Nickson Oyaro.

The Bungoma-based side scoring tally was led by Jentrix Masika and Gideon Mulwa who bagged five goals each.
