NCPB set final date with Ulinzi

The millers and the soldiers, who finished in the top two positions in the Kenya Handball League, stormed the final after winning their respective semifinals on Sunday.

Champions National Cereals and Produce Board will meet Ulinzi in the Super Cup men’s final match slated for Thursday at Nyayo Stadium.

The millers and the soldiers, who finished in the top two positions in the Kenya Handball League, stormed the final after winning their respective semifinals on Sunday.

NCPB, who were top in Pool ‘A’, beat Strathmore University 38-26 in the first semifinal inspired by goals from William Malui (seven) and Brian Wekhuka (five).

For the students, who were placed second in Pool ‘B’, Moses Odhiambo managed six goals. They trailed 20-11 at the break.

The other semifinal saw Ulinzi, who topped Pool ‘B’, lock out Black Mamba 33-22.

Frank Kiplagat scored nine goals while Gideon Mulwa added four in the win. In their last group matches, NCPB blanked GSU 31-23 as Nicholas Okore shot five goals.

Ulinzi beat Strathmore University 26-23 with Nicholas Ireri and Gideon Mukwa bagging five goals each for KDF.

In the women’s category, Ulinzi Sharks dismissed Rangers 42-31 and will have to wait for the last match on Thursday to know their fate.

In a tightly contested match, the soldiers led 18-15 at half time. Sarah Wasike recorded 13 goals and Lavendar Martha shot eight.

“We have done our part. We played some good game and used different tactics in that match. Now we await the last match on Thursday,” said Sharks coach Nickson Oyaro.

The Bungoma-based side’s scoring tally was led by Jentrix Masika and Gideon Mulwa, who bagged five goals each.

The women’s final between champions Nairobi Water Queens and NCPB is scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday, followed by the men’s final.
