Kisii Jubilee aspirants have said they will clinch 70 per cent of the seats in the county and deliver votes to Azimio presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga.

However, they warned against vicious competition among Azimio partners, saying this would benefit Kenya Kwanza alliance.

“We are confident that the Jubilee team will deliver seats in Kisii county. We have a strong, a professional and experienced team full of performers," governor aspirant Chris Obure said on Tuesday.

"We are determined to do everything possible to garner the majority of seats in Kisii. We are targeting MCA, MP, senator, woman representative and governor seats.”

He said they will work with other leaders in Azimio to drum up support for Raila.

“We are upbeat that our team will inspire confidence and hope in the people of Kisii,” Obure said.

He urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and state machinery to remain impartial as candidates hit the campaign trail.

Obure spoke to journalists in Kisii town after a consultative meeting with aspirants.

He was accompanied by Jubilee party deputy leader Jimmy Angwenyi, senator candidate Omingo Magara and woman representative aspirant Peris Onsarigo.

Others were MP hopefuls Richard Tong’i (Nyaribari Chache), Kepher Ombacho (South Mugirango), Cynthia Kerubo (Kitutu Chache South), and Kenneth Nyamweya (Bomachoge Chache).

Angwenyi assured Jubilee leader President Uhuru Kenyatta that the team would deliver the Kisii vote.

“We are determined to deliver the majority of elective seats to Jubilee. However, as Azimio partners we should not compete too much amongst ourselves,” he said.

Angwenyi is seeking to defend his Kitutu Chache North seat.

Magara said they have the capability to deliver votes to Raila. Magara is the immediate former UDA national treasurer. He ditched the Deputy President William Ruto-led party.

The leaders condemned pockets of violence experienced recently in the county. They called for peaceful and issue-based campaigns.

“All we want is peaceful campaigns. We should go round selling our agenda and not hurling insults at each other,” Obure said.

“We don’t want violence in Kisii. Any act of violence must be condemned. It is primitive to hire people to stone politicians during campaigns,” Angwenyi said.

Tong’i said the region will remain peaceful during the campaigns and asked security chiefs to intensify patrols across the county.
