The construction of the Talanta Sports Stadium is in full swing days after the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Talanta Sports City at Jamhuri which is set to redefine the city's sports landscape was launched by President William Ruto on Friday.

It is being constructed ahead of the AFCON 2027 which Kenya will co-host with its neighbors Uganda and Tanzania.

Construction equipment which includes trucks and other heavy machinery has been moved to the site.

A video clip shared by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba Tuesday showed works ongoing with excavators doing the excavation of the foundation ahead of ground levelling and installation of necessary infrastructure.

"Deliberate, intentional, structured. Tunajenga, delivering the plan," Ababu said.

"The project is a customized only-football design tailored for soccer, rugby and elite concerts."

The CS revealed that the Stadium will be an iconic landmark that will be comparable to the best stadiums in the world.

He said that the Stadium will be designated the home venue for the National team Harambee Stars.

It is the first-ever new facility to be constructed in the country in decades after Nyayo and Kasarani.

The 60,000-seat professional Stadium is expected to be completed by December 2025.

During the groundbreaking event, President William Ruto directed Defence CS Aden Duale and Chief of Defences Forces Francis Ogolla to ensure there is weekly supervision in the construction of the Talanta Sports City, in Nairobi.

Ruto said that he expects all timelines set to be met as agreed.

He said the Ministry of Defence must also ensure that the stadium is built with world-class discipline.

Ruto added that while the Defence ministry will be doing weekly supervisions, he will personally supervise the progress achieved every three months.

"I have agreed with the ministries, and that is why the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Defence are also represented here because we want this stadium to be built to world-class standard using military discipline," Ruto said.

"I will expect our defence team, Aden Duale, the CDF and the team to make sure all the timelines we have agreed are kept by the contractor and I expect that there will be supervision every week, every two weeks and I will be here myself every three months until this facility is completed."

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja thanked the president for launching the project saying it will boost sports activities.
