Kisii Governor Simba Arati has expressed sympathy for the families of the two young girls who perished in a tragic road accident Friday evening in the Daraja Moja area along the Kisii-Keroka highway.

The accident occurred when a pickup rammed into the boda boda they were riding in.

The Toyota Hilux pickup was heading to downtown Kisii from the Jogoo area when its brakes are said to have failed.

According to Arati, the two young ladies were on their way home after attending lessons at the Kisii Ajiry Center at the Gusii Stadium.

"I am deeply saddened to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrible accident,” he said in an X post.

He solemnly remarked, “May the Lord give strength and comfort to the bereaved families and intervene in occasioning quick recovery to the injured”.

This, as he raised concerns over the delayed upgrade of the highway especially along the Darajamoja stretch which he said has been labeled a black spot due to the history of accidents.

County Police Commander Charles Kases said the pickup was negotiating the intersection of the Kisii-Keroka and Kisii-Nyamira roads when it rammed into the boda boda killing the two pillions on board.

"The boda boda was heading to Kisii from Keroka when the accident occurred."

"The bodaboda operator, Kevin Bundi, suffered a deep cut to the head and a fracture on the left leg and was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment," he said

The pickup driver suffered bruises and is also recovering in KTRH.
