Police in Kisii are looking for the driver of the ill-fated Modern Coast bus which killed a pedestrian and injured 19 passengers in a freak accident early Wednesday.

The driver is said to have sought treatment at health facility within Kisii town before hastily sprinting away to avoid arrest.

Kisii Central OCPD Amos Ambasa, however, asked him wherever he is to quickly surrender to the authorities to aid in investigations.

"He should turn up, in any case, it was an accident which is under a probe," he told the Star at his office.

The Subcounty Police boss said already, the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) officers were on site to carry out a probe into the probable cause of the accident.

At least 19 travelers were injured after the bus veered off the tarmac and landed in River Nyakomisaro at the Masosa Bridge.

Most of the injured had by Wednesday evening been treated and discharged from the health facilities they were rushed to, County Health Executive, Leah Bwari, told the Star.

The bulk of those who sustained injuries were rushed to private hospitals due to a doctors' strike that has since been called off.

KMPDU regional secretary general Aggrey Orwenyo said the doctors made the decision after November salary was paid by the county government on Wednesday.
