NPS issues statement on Mombasa Road traffic snarl-up

The National Police has issued a traffic alert on Mombasa Road following heavy rains.

In a statement, the NPS appealed to motorists approaching the Sultan Hamud township to be cautious, and patient and avoid overlapping. 

"A section of Mombasa Road near Sultan Hamud township has been flooded. This has resulted in a snarl-up of traffic along that section of the busy highway," the statement read. 

NPS also said police officers are on the ground controlling the traffic and monitoring the situation. 

"We wish to appeal to all motorists approaching Sultan Hamud to drive carefully," NPS said. 

Heavy rains have been experienced in various parts of the country since Saturday morning, causing floods in several estates around the city. 

The latest forecast by the Meteorological department shows that rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country in the coming days.

The forecast valid from April 18 to April 24 cautioned that some areas may experience storms during that period.

“Isolated storms may occur over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Coast and North-eastern Kenya,” the forecast read.

The forecast reveals that average daytime maximum temperatures are likely to reach highs of more than 30 degrees Celsius over most parts of the coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

The average nighttime minimum temperatures are likely to hit lows of less than 10 degrees Celsius over some parts of the Highlands East and the Rift Valley.
