One arrested, DCI impounds Sh32m illicit cigarettes

A multi-agency team of detectives based at the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit have impounded an illicit consignment of cigarettes worth over Sh32 million.
 

The undercover team posed as potential clients at a residential house before raiding the area.

This consignment comprised over 20,000 packets of cigarettes, alongside counterfeit stamps and empty cigarette cartons.

One suspect was arrested and detained at Muthaiga police station.

The suspect is assisting detectives with investigations before being arraigned in court.

According to the  DCI total tax lost through smuggled cigarettes is estimated at Sh18 million.
