Kiambu county government will transform the titanic killer dam into a recreation facility and install free Wi-Fi, Murera MCA Moses Ngatha has said.

Speaking to Star Ngatha said that he will push for the county government to create a park and equip it with free internet to make youths comfortable and busy.

Ngatha said the place will be well secured to avoid any further accidents and urged residents to be watchful especially when drunk.

He said that already he has drafted a motion that he will table in the assembly for the county to renovate the area and secure it better and make use of the facility that would fetch revenue.

“This place is full of opportunities and I will table a motion this week and urge the county to transform the killer dam into a more useful means," he said.

He said four cases were reported last year where people were killed and dumped.

Ngatha said this prompted the community leadership and the well-wishers to employ security officers who are paid monthly to secure the place.

He said that the act of empowering the youths will rescue them from drug abuse and impact them positively.

On Sunday afternoon, Friends and church held special prayers at the site and urged the revellers to be watchful.

Pastor Moses Mwangi who led prayers took the opportunity and challenged the churches in the area to frequently visit the dam and preach to the visitors.

“We decided to visit this dam after we heard what happened and this should be a routine and we would like to urge the county to make it more secure and productive," he said.

On Saturday, friends of the man who died on January 17 at the dam gathered at the scene to mourn him.

They mourned Tirus Maina Gikonyo as a staunch businessman and a friend who loved to help the less fortunate in society.

John Mwangi a resident called on the relevant authorities including the Kiambu county government to ensure the dam is fenced to avert such incidents.
