Chebukati deserves the EGH award - Milicent Omanga

Says the IEBC chairman stood for justice during the August polls.

Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has said IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati deserves the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) award.

On Monday, President William Ruto awarded Chebukati and Commissioners Molu Boya and Abdi Guliye.

In a statement on Wednesday, Omanga said that Chebukati stood for justice during the August polls.

"Chebukati did something very heroic, portrayed a high level of patriotism, stood for justice and offered selfless service to the country under very difficult circumstances. He deserved the award beyond doubt," he said.

The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart award is the second-highest award in Kenya and is mostly awarded to the Deputy President, the wife of the Deputy President, the First lady and Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate.

Also, cabinet secretaries, heads of public service and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), chiefs of staff and heads of Public Service.

Commissioners Molu and Guliye were awarded Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).

Chebukati, Guliye and Molu's terms end in January 2023.

The two commissioners backed the results announced by Chebukati in the August 9 presidential election, which declared Ruto president.

Four other commissioners led by vice chairperson Juliana Cherera disowned the results.
