Four die, several injured in Kirinyaga road accident

Four people died on the spot while several others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Koroma area in Kirinyaga County Saturday night.

Police said the accident happened along the Ngaru - Gatuto road.

The driver of the ill-fated 14-seater Passengers Service Vehicle (PSV), popularly known as Matatu, was driving from Kerugoya to Kagio via Ngaru - Gatuto road when he lost control of the vehicle.

The driver was trying to negotiate a sharp corner when the vehicle rolled several times.

"As a result of the impact, four passengers died on the spot while others sustained injuries and were rushed to Kerogoya Hospital where they were left while undergoing treatment," police said.

The bodies of the dead were moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting post-mortem examination.

The badly damaged vehicle was towed to Kerugoya Police Station where it was detained awaiting inspection.
