An emotional lady whose mother died in a Bomet road accident has expressed her regrets for not picking up her calls moments before the tragedy occured.

In an emotional post on her Facebook page, Carren Chepchumba felt sorry for failing to talk to her mother when she sought her.

“Umeenda hivo surely ningejua ningeomba simu Iko na credit, nisamahe mum,” Chepchumba narrated.

(You’ve just left that way. If I knew this would happen, I would have borrowed a phone with airtime to call you. Forgive me mum)

Chepchumba’s mother was among the five passengers who lost their lives in the accident.

Some 18 others were injured and are still recuperating at Tenwek Hospital.

The accident involving a matatu and a tractor happened along the Olonguruone-Silibwet road.

"Have confirmed everything it's true my mum you are no longer with us. Why did this happen on 18/03/2024? I'm sorry mum. Sikuchukua simu wakati ulinical three times but I redeemed bonga points for just 3 bob and you told me 'nataka kuona sis wako Cherono Longisa'."

A police report on the accident stated:

"It happened that the driver was driving his motor vehicle from Olenguruone heading towards Bomet general direction and on reaching the location of the accident, the driver of the matatu failed to keep to his proper lane and rammed into the tractor."

Chepchumba recalled that the last time her mother commented on her Facebook post was at 1 pm on the day of the tragedy.

“You commented on FB photo at 1:48 pm, mum nimeamini umeenda (I have believed you have gone), " she said.

"You raised me as a single mother I appreciate that mum, kwaheri"

The post has since gone viral on social media attracting thousands of comments from Kenyans sympathising with her.

“It shall be well Caren Chepchumba, may God give you strength. Pole Sana,” a friend commented.
