The newly elected Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Faith Odhiambo has today been sworn into office marking the end of the era for his predecessor Eric Theuri.

Odhiambo beat Harriet Mboche, Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich, Peter Wanyama and Carolyne Kamende in an election held late last month to become the society's 51st president.

She garnered 3,113 votes as her close contender Peter Wanyama got 2,165 votes. Kamende came third with 888.

Odhiambo will serve for two terms which is non-renewable.

During her campaigns, Odhiambo received a huge boost from various leaders including opposition leader Raila Odinga.

She was sworn in alongside other officials at the society's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Riftvalley Sports Club in Nakuru.

Odhiambo becomes the second female president to lead the LSK after former Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo who served between 2001 -2003.

During her campaigns, Odhiambo underscored her commitment to upholding the rule of law emphasizing the challenges faced by the judiciary in the face of executive attacks.

She also vowed to stand firm for the rule of law and ensure the LSK remains a strong defender of legal principles.

Having previously served as the society's representative for Nairobi County, Odhiambo highlighted her experience and institutional memory.

“As the vice president, we have built the society with a level of sobriety and stability and now we are focusing on how to propel it to the next level,” she said.

"I bring a vision and a clear path on where I want to see it go."

Asserting that she is not only capable but also prepared for the responsibilities of the presidency.

Theuri was defined by his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, defending human rights, and advancing the interests of legal professionals across the country.

Throughout his presidency, he navigated complex legal landscapes, championed judicial independence, and tirelessly advocated for the rights of marginalized communities.

Under his leadership, LSK played a pivotal role in shaping legal discourse, promoting legal education, and fostering a culture of integrity within the legal profession.
