LSK has visionary leader in Faith Odhiambo – Gideon Moi says after meeting

Former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi now says that the Law Society of Kenya bagged a visionary in Faith Odhiambo, the incoming president. 

In a statement after their meeting on Thursday, Moi said that the LSK is a key organisation when it comes to upholding the law and constitutionalism.

He went on to describe the LSK president-elect as a brilliant individual, and that the society has a firm and determined leader.

The Kanu party leader also congratulated Odhiambo, as she takes charge as the new LSK boss.

"The Law Society of Kenya is a crucial body that promotes the rule of law and constitutionalism. By electing Faith Odhiambo as its President, the legal association has found itself a brilliant, resolute and visionary leader," he said on X.

"I congratulate her and the entire legal profession for this bold decision. Meeting the LSK President-elect Faith Odhiambo in Nairobi."

The two met in Nairobi.

Faith Odhiambo was elected the new Law Society of Kenya president on February 29.

Odhiambo served as Vice President of the society, where he deputised Eric Theuri, the outgoing president. Theuri’s term will expire on March 25, 2024.

The race for the presidency was between five candidates: Peter Wanyama, Carolyne Kamende, Faith Odhiambo, Harriet Mboche and Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich.

Odhiambo got 3,113 votes and was followed closely by Wanyama who had 2,165 votes. Kamende had 888 votes, Ng'etich 833 votes and Mboche 511 votes.

During her campaign period, Odhiambo underscored her commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the council remains a strong defender of legal principles.

Raychelle Omamo was the last woman to hold the top LSK job from 2001 to 2003.
