President William Ruto has responded to critics of his policies, insisting that mama mbogas and the boda boda operators are still in his plans.

Speaking shortly after he signed the Affordable Housing Bill into law, on Tuesday, Ruto said that through the Housing plan, the mama mbogas and bodaboda guys will be able to own decent homes.

He added that this will extend to all hustlers in the country who live in slums where they cannot afford basic needs like electricity, water and good sanitation facilities.

He insisted that the Affordable Housing Program would dignify the lives of the people at the bottom of the pyramid in society.

"Many people have been asking us what happened to your mama mboga and bodaboda guys. I want to tell them our bodaboda and our Mama Mboga are firmly in our equation. This program will make it possible for a mama mboga who today pays rent at Sh3,000 to pay it and own a home in Kenya," Ruto said.

"It will give a chance to a bodaboda guy and every hustler in Kenya who lives in a shack that has no water, electricity, or sanitation. It's going to dignify their lives and they too like the rest of society can own a home."

Some opposition politicians have claimed that mama mboga and bodaboda operators have been abandoned.

Their remarks were in relation to the high cost of living in the country.

President Ruto had campaigned on the platform of reducing the cost of living.

He however insisted that the country was in a bad state economically and that Kenyans needed to give a little more to fix the situation.
