EACC lawyer Joyce Munene lands key role with International Bar Association

Joyce Munene, an Assistant Director at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured a notable post as the liaison officer for the Criminal Law Committee with the International Bar Association (IBA), representing the African region.

Welcoming the news, the lawyer and investigator expressed her joy in having been appointed to the position.

"I am happy to have secured this position at a time when Kenya is advancing its global and regional influence and presence on diverse fronts," she said on Saturday evening.

"I look forward to contributing to the regional quest for good governance, justice, and rule of law in line with objectives of the International Bar Association."

Munene's key roles will include representing the African region in committee meetings and conferences.  

With a background in law where she is an advocate of the High Court, forensic investigations and a president's commendation, Munene adds a wealth of expertise to the international organisation. 

In 2022, she was awarded with the Head of State's Commendation (HSC).

Further, Munene is a forensic investigator trained with reputable organizations such as the FBI and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong.

She holds a Master of Law degree in International Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Laws.

Before joining the EACC, she worked in the private sector and the Parliamentary Service Commission.

The IBA was founded in 1947 and has, over the years, continued to be the most distinguished legal organisation representing legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies globally.

The organisation's main objective is the promotion and preservation of the rule of law internationally.

It has grown to include individual international lawyers from leading law firms and almost 200 bar associations and law societies across the five continents.

The organisation plays a critical role in providing assistance and legal programmes around the world focusing on issues such as international law reforms and mapping out the strategic direction of the legal profession across the world.
