Winnie Odinga has been missing from the public and might continue to be away following an injury. The EALA MP revealed that she had been injured recently and is recovering from an Achilles tendon issue.

"Some of you have been asking why I've been quiet. I ruptured my Achilles tendon during the Inter-Parliamentary Games (IPG) in Rwanda," she said.

She said she would be off the public radar for some time.

The Inter-Parliamentary Games took place from December 8 to 18.

The annual sports event saw more than 1000 parliamentarians from six member states of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan gather to compete.

The IPG plays a fundamental role in enabling EALA’s interaction with members of the national parliaments, staff, and citizens of East Africa.

According to medical journals, this is an injury that affects the back of your lower leg. It mainly occurs in people playing recreational sports, but it can happen to anyone.

The Achilles tendon is a strong fibrous cord that connects the muscles in the back of your calf to your heel bone. If you overstretch your Achilles tendon, it can tear (rupture) completely or just partially.

If your Achilles tendon ruptures, you might hear a pop, followed by an immediate sharp pain in the back of your ankle and lower leg that is likely to affect your ability to walk properly. Surgery is often performed to repair the rupture. For many people, however, nonsurgical treatment works just as well.

Langata MP Phelix Odiwour aka Jalang'o also early this year suffered the same injury. He said that he got hurt while playing with his fellow MPs in a bunge basketball training.

Jalang'o is still recovering and exercising hoping to return to normal.
