A night guard has been killed and 29 bags of Grade A coffee stolen at Kathurine Factory in Imenti North, Meru.

The guard was killed on Sunday night after an unknown number of suspected robbers broke into the facility.

One of the residents said they found the watchman dead and lying in a bed.

"His hands had been tied and his face covered. He was also fully clothed and laid on a bed," he said.

A knife which is believed to have been used to tear the coffee sacks and a cap were found at the scene.

The residents urged the government to launch a probe into the murder and robbery.

They said it was disheartening for farmers to put in work only for their products to end up stolen.

They also requested for installation of security cameras and street lights in the area, to enhance security.
