Guard killed in night raid at technical institute in Machakos

Body was found at the reception of the college with head injuries

Unknown number of people suspected to be thugs raided the Machakos Hospitality Technical Institute in Machakos town and killed a night guard in a robbery.

The body of Fidels Muthama Muthini, 28 was found at the reception of the institute by workers who had reported to work.

Police said the gang stole unknown goods from the institution.

The deceased had three deep cuts on the forehead and back of the head.

Police said the gang gained entry to the reception office by cutting the padlock and killing Muthini before proceeding with their mission.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy. No arrest has been made over the May 26 incident, police said.

In Bungoma’s Busire village, one Joshua Oduor Ochieng aged 33 was attacked by unknown people in a robbery and killed.

He was rushed to the local hospital where he died while being attended to, police said.

Police said they are looking for the suspects behind the murder and motive.

Elsewhere a tenant identified as Samuel Mwangi died by suicide in his house in an incident in the Sunton area, Kasarani Nairobi.

The body of Mwangi was found dangling from the rooftop of his house with a rope tied around his neck.

Police said the deceased owned a bar and one of his employees stated that he exhibited signs of being stressed and drunk a lot as he talked of his last days on earth.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise in the past months amid calls to address the trend. Police said they receive up to two cases of suicide daily.
