The group vouched for Annah Nyaera Omwega, a lecturer and legal consultant at Kenya School of Government.

Omwega is one of the candidates shortlisted from the region. The professionals said Omwega will be the face of the youth and women in President William Ruto’s administration.

In the Nyanza region, 29 people were shortlisted to attend the interviews for the position. Siaya has 5, Kisumu 4, Homa Bay 5, Migori 6, Kisii 5 and Nyamira 4.

Other shortlisted candidates from the region are former Kisii governor James Ongwae, Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero, former Migori county woman representative Danitah Ghati and former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Colleta Suda.

''It would be better if the President can consider giving the position of CAS positions to young and energetic people to serve in his government other than giving it to people who have been in positions for long,” said Jemimah Kwamboka.

Omwega is currently pursuing a PhD in Strategic Management (Seminars) at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi. She unsuccessfully vied for the Woman Representative position, in Nyamira County in 2017.

She is currently a spokesperson of "The Women Empowerment Group" in Nyamira and Kisii where she is involved in activities that lobby and advocate for the rights of women.

The PSC asked members of the public to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits or online submissions to the PSC by February 28, 2023.

The shortlist comes after a court dismissed a case filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which challenged the legality of creating CAS positions.

Earlier on the court ruled that the PSC had the mandate to establish CAS positions as part of public service reforms.

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the PSC office in Nairobi starting on March 01, 2023.

The list published by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on its website showed the positions attracted 5,183 applications.
