Kenya’s top leadership has come to the rescue of embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza who is facing challenges with MCAs.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua  gave his assurance that together with the President, they will hold a meeting with Meru leadership.

Speaking during a church service in Embu on Sunday, Gachagua assured Mwangaza that he and President William Ruto would organise a sit-down.

"The President and I will not allow any issues to stop development in Meru. Ruto has agreed that we will have a sitting with the governor, senator, MCAs and MPs, so that we make peace," he said.

President William Ruto, who was also in attendance, called on Meru leaders to unite and rally behind Mwangaza.

He pledged to support her all through.

Ruto also asked the MCAs to organise themselves and lead the county in an appropriate manner.

"I would like to ask the MCAs to lead and organise Meru county so that it can make steps forward. And to our governor, I will not let you fall,” he said

"I will stand by you and fight with you. But when you go astray, know that I will be watching.”

Mwangaza, compared her situation to the biblical story of David and Goliath and asked for help from the Head of State.

"I remember in 2011, we gave him a name: Marete, which means one who brings. It is my prayer that God touches President Ruto and uses him to bring peace to Meru county," she said.

Last week, the Meru High Court suspended an impeachment motion against her.

In a ruling on November 30, Justice Wamae Cherere said the Meru assembly did not follow a proper procedure in initiating the motion.

Mwangaza had earlier moved to court seeking orders to bar the assembly from debating her impeachment motion.

The impeachment motion had been tabled on November 21 by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora, who also doubles as the minority chief whip.
