Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has said he will not shut down noisy churches in the city's residential areas.

Instead, he said, the county will hold talks with them on observation of laws and regulations, so they can keep on spreading the gospel.

"I will not close the churches. We want them to spread the gospel on obeying rules and regulations.I will initiate talks with them because we must be reasonable and accommodate each other in the city," he said.

Speaking on Thursday during the commissioning of the Green Park bus Terminal, Sakaja pointed out that he will not go back on his verdict on bars and restaurants.

"I will not go back on the  abolition of bars and restaurants from residences. We have closed that chapter. Let us move on. Those saying people will lose jobs are seeking sympathy.  It is the right thing to do although it is unpopular," he said.

On Sunday, a Catholic priest asked Sakaja to consider closing down noisy churches, saying some churches are louder than clubs.

"Our country is very noisy...today, churches are noisier than pubs, that is the truth. Our churches have more noise than drinking pubs. That tells you we have a problem," he said.

The statements comes after Sakaja revoked licences of entertainment joints in residential areas within the city.
