He said there are many complaints regarding the operation of bars and entertainment joints in estates and near schools.

"The authority calls on resident associations and other community groups to call out and report any proprietor violating the law to ensure such transgressions are promptly halted," Okioma said.

"As the country prepares for the festive season, the authority takes this opportunity to point out that children must be protected from exposure to alcohol and drugs," he added.

The Nairobi County Government on Friday last week cancelled licenses for nightclubs that were operating in residential areas and said it will not be issuing the permits to such premises anymore.

Acting county secretary Jairus Musumba said the affected entertainment joints can continue operating as bars and restaurants but keep the volume of music at a minimum.

"Specifically, playing of music must stop by 10 pm," Musumba said.

He said going forward, nightclub licences will only be issued to premises operating within the Central Business District and specified streets within select residential areas.

On Sunday, Governor Johnson Sakaja issued the last call for operators of bars and nightclubs in residential areas to abide by the directive or face the law as city askaris were deployed for patrols.
