Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has said that the Opposition should play an oversight role and offer the government objective advice.

Speaking on Monday, Barasa said the opposition should come up with issues that will assist Kenyans and President William Ruto to run the government.

"What we are simply praying is for the opposition to be united. We want a strong opposition party in this country. Strong opposition in the sense of coming up with issues that will assist us and Ruto to change tact and stretch his hands beyond the normal and serve Kenyans better," he said in an interview with TV 47.

"We want them to offer wisdom on things that are good for this country to move forward."

He said that for opposition to be meaningful they should present issues they want the government to handle.

"We want to see them taking delegations to the office of the Deputy President, to the office of the governance and cabinet secretaries, to be able to hand in issues that they want the government to handle," he said.

The MP alleged that Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua is trying to be part of the government.

"What Martha Karua has been saying is that she doesn't recognise that the President is William Ruto. That is a way of trying to find her foot in government," Barasa said.

Karua said that the law accepts Ruto as the President but she doesn't.

"The law accepts Ruto, not me," she said in an interview with BBC.
