Barasa was re-elected during the August 9, general elections under a UDA ticket.

He took the oath of office on September 8.

National Assembly members have been focusing on the task given to them by President William Ruto to help cut the 2022/23 budget by Sh300 billion.

Ruto also wants the MPs to amend the law to align NHIF to the Kenya Kwanza UHC plan, and help anchor the Senate Oversight Fund, and National Government- Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

During his maiden speech in the 13th Parliament, Barasa said they would prioritise the President’s agenda, starting with salvaging the NG-CDF.

“We will deal with the things the President has reiterated, starting with salvaging CDF to coming up with a plan of how to ensure increased savings. We will also craft how to anchor and actualize the Hustler Fund,” he said.

On the Sh300 billion budget cuts, Barasa said discussions will centre on how to reorganize some non-priority capital projects in favour of labour-intensive ones.
