Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has said that she will not respond to allegations raised by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission until they officially communicate to her.

The governor said that she has not received any formal communication from the commission.

Speaking on Monday, Mwangaza said that she learnt of the allegations from social media.

"The County Government of Meru has not received any communication from EACC. We just saw the news on the media yesterday. We have not been served with any copy and we are very surprised but still waiting for them to serve us," she said.

Mwangaza added that once issued a formal communication, she will give all the relevant answers to the commission.

EACC issued a statement calling out Mwangaza over her leadership in  Meru.

The governor was allegedly accused of directing county employees to participate in furthering the interests of Baite TV.

The media station is allegedly owned by her husband Baichu Murega.

Mwangaza is also faulted for appointing her spouse Murega to a public office as County Youth Patron and hustler's ambassador.

Her husband is also on the spot for attending county meetings and even issuing directives to county employees.

Mwangaza is further alleged to have employed two of her sisters to public office: one as a personal assistant and the other as security personnel.

"It is further reported that under her directive, employees of the county are expected to promote political activities on social media platforms and that those who fail to do so are threatened with termination of their employment," the statement read.

The Governor is also accused of failing to protect public resources after she directed the Meru Teaching and referral hospital to spend all income at source contrary to Article 207 of the constitution.

Mwangaza is also accused of irregular recruitment of the acting director of communication Hillary Mutuma Sandi.

It is also reported that the county cleaners were recruited through a public declaration in contravention of the law and recruitment guidelines.

Mwangaza has recently had a standoff with the MCAs.
