The dispute between Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and MCAs has drawn the attention of Meru MPs who want the stand-off quelled.

MPs led by Igembe Central's Dan Kiili, Tigania East's Mpuru Aburi and Woman Representative Elizabeth Karamu have urged legislators and the governor to resolve the issue.

"In Meru we have a big problem, there has been drought and now if the governor and MCAs start the back and forth issues, it will be a problem for the people of Kenya," Kiili said.

Karamu said MCAs don't necessarily have to agree with everything the governor says, but should at least respect her and not walk out when she is addressing them.

"We have to respect those above us even if we do not agree on an issue," she said.

On October 19, drama erupted at the Meru county assembly after MCAs walked out on Mwangaza.

The MCAs were heard shouting "Hatutaki!" as they walked out.

Mwangaza was forced to deliver her speech outside the chambers in what was expected to be the official opening of the assembly.

The MCAs had the previous day suspended normal House business to discuss the governor's conduct.

Led by Speaker Ayub Bundi, the ward reps resolved to call her out, saying she had been disrespectful towards them.

"The MCAs have agreed that they are not ready to listen to the governor during the address set for this afternoon,” Bundi said.

They also accused Mwangaza of failing to honour their summons, a claim she dismissed.
