Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has said that she will not be intimidated by the MCAs to fulfill their demands.

Addressing the press on Monday in Meru, the governor said that all MCAs ought to be contented with their salaries just as she is.

"I am not ready to pocket even a single coin that belongs to mwanachi wa kawaida. I will not be intimidated to be a thief. I will not.  Nataka kila mtu afuate sheria na kila mtu  atosheke na mshahara wake (Everyone should follow the law and be contended with their salaries)," she stated.

Mwangaza said that she has severally met with the MCAs and agreed on the ward fund, but the ward representatives turn against her.

She said that the MCAs demand what the previous governors have been giving them.

Mwangaza said that she will release the county funds only if it is legal.

She demanded that the MCAs present a written document for accountability of the funds.

"Let the speaker bring a written document even if it is Sh200,000 or Sh200,000,000 per year. I'm ready to give you provided that it is anchored in the law," she said.

Last week, there has been a standoff between the governor and Meru MCAs.

This is after the MCAs walked out on Mwangaza when she was delivering her speech at the Meru County Assembly.

The MCAs said Mwangaza was disrespectful and failed to honour their summons a claim that the governor dismissed.
