President-elect William Ruto has disclosed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has refused to congratulate him following his victory in the August 9, polls.

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Ruto said the outgoing President is yet to comment on his victory something that he is not worried about.

"Unfortunately, President Kenyatta has not seen it fit to congratulate me," he said.

"Maybe he's a bit disillusioned or maybe he's unhappy that I defeated his candidate, but that is the nature of politics."

The revelations come on the very day Ruto said he had a telephone conversation with the outgoing president to discuss transition matters.

"I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded general election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice," he said in a Wednesday tweet.

On Monday, while commenting on the verdict of the Supreme Court that upheld Ruto's win, Uhuru committed himself to peacefully hand over power.

Ruto reiterated to CNN  that he will work toward benefiting all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliation.

"The administration that I'm going to run is going to be an administration that is going to serve all Kenyans equally, whether they voted for us or they did not."

He said the peace witnessed after the announcement of the results is a testament that Kenyan democracy has grown.

"I think it speaks to the heart of the maturity of the democracy of our country. No citizen, no leader wants their country to be famous for violence," he said.

"That is the standard we have raised for ourselves as the people of Kenya, I am very proud of it."

The President-elect said he is ready to work with Raila in an arrangement that will see him perform his role as an opposition leader.

Ruto also promised to champion regional peace and bilateral ties.

"I intend to scale up the participation of Kenya in many of the areas, especially in our regional peace initiatives, "he said.

"I will be available, I will play my part, I will scale up Kenya's standing and contribution in that space so that together we can contribute to a better, a much more peaceful neighbourhood," Ruto added.
