United States President Joe Biden has congratulated President-elect William Ruto after the Supreme Court upheld his win.

During a press brief, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the US looks forward to enhancing its partnership with Ruto and his government.

“We congratulate William Ruto on his election as President and the people of Kenya on the conclusion of a peaceful electoral process,” she said.

Karine commended Azimio leader Raila Odinga for abiding by the Supreme Court decision.

“We commend Raila Odinga and other candidates for abiding by the Supreme Court filling, a transparent electoral process and the peaceful adjudication of disputes are testaments to the strength of democratic institutions,” Karine said.

She said the US and Kenya share a strong and long-standing partnership based on the commitment to democracy, security and economic prosperity.

Ruto awaits swearing-in on September 13 to become Kenya's fifth president.
