President-elect William Ruto has said he will make a call to Raila Odinga and his Azimio brigade to discuss how they will move Kenya forward.

Speaking in Karen on Monday, Ruto said the talks will focus on how the Azimio leader and his team will perform their role as the opposition to ensure that his government performs its mandate diligently.

Ruto said he does not believe in handshakes and expects Azimio will work as an opposition to hold the executive accountable.

“I will also make a call to my worthy competitor, Raila Odinga. I look forward to a conversation on how they will hold us accountable,” he said.

“… and they will ensure that public resources are put to good use in an accountable manner. I don't believe in handshake stories.”

He said they will respect Uhuru and Raila in his retirement.

"We are honorable people, we are not petty and we are not jealous… When our good friend Raila Odinga retires we will also give him the respect he deserves ," he said.

"When Raila retires we will give him the respect he deserves as a leader who has done great work for Kenya. "

Ruto said they want to grow a nation, build a society based on the rule of law and respect for the elders.
