The Mombasa UDA brigade has called for the transfer of all poll officials in the county that conducted last Tuesday’s general election.

Led by Mombasa governor candidate Hassan Omar, they accused the IEBC officers of colluding with police and some Azimio top brass in the county to manipulate the elections.

Omar was addressing the media at his Nyali residence Monday morning flanked by his running mate Selina Maitha ahead of the announcement of the presidential results.

“We know there are IEBC officials who worked with our opponents to guarantee them victory in several seats,” he said.

“All officers who conducted this election in Mombasa should be moved before we go to the gubernatorial vote next Tuesday.”

Omar said that the transfers should be effected immediately as the county is expected to go to the gubernatorial polls on August 23.

“They should not come and spoil the governor elections. We know them and what they did,” Omar said.

Last Monday, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati announced that elections for gubernatorial positions in Mombasa and Kakamega counties had been suspended following errors on ballot papers.

Omar said that they will go to court to challenge the results of the seats they lost in the county.

The former Mombasa senator called for the transfer and removal of several police heads within the six subcounties of Mombasa, alleging that they protected their opponents as they indulged in electoral malpractices.

“If the Inspector General of police cares for this county, then all the OCSs and OCPDs should be moved before we go to the county polls next week,” he said.

He said that they were contemplating taking legal action.

“I am ready for you. You cannot be public officers and threaten the lives of Kenyans”

Omar also wooed elected MCAs in the county, saying that he was the only one able to lead Mombasa to prosperity.

He alleged that the current Mombasa County Assembly was being held hostage and controlled.

“We must free the assembly from the control of the executive, I will give you the space to serve your people and not the interest of a few selfish individuals,” Omar said.

“We are intending to put up working systems in Mombasa. We want to change this county.”

Selina said Mombasa was no longer an ODM zone as previously assumed as the UDA party managed to scoop five MCA seats.

As a former public servant with over 20 years of experience, she called on all public administrators to exercise caution and objectivity in serving people.
