Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council CEO Daniel Yumbya on Tuesday called on Kenyans to go home and maintain peace after casting their votes.

Yumbya said Kenyans should vote and accept the results despite who wins.

"Those who win the elections win and those who lose should accept defeat, " Yumbya said.

He addressed the press after casting his vote at Ngoleni primary school in Kathiani, Machakos county, on Tuesday morning.

Yumbya was the first person to cast his vote immediately the polling station was opened at 6am.

He said he had been voting at the station for the last 40 years.

"As usual, I am always the first person to vote. It's good to turn up early in the station, vote and go home to engage in other activities, " Yumbya said.

He said he was impressed with the IEBC's preparedness for the exercise in Kathiani constituency.

Yumbya said, however, that most youth had not turned up to vote while he was at the polling centre.

"The perception that youth could turn up in large numbers to cast their votes isn't true. This station for instance is full of women and the elderly. The majority of voters are the same, elderly, there is no difference, " Yumbya said.
